For the acid attack victims from the Depilex Smile Again Foundation, Nixor Log X (NLX) arranged a fun-filled event in collaboration with Meri Bhi Aik Khuwaish Hai (MBAKH) namely the New Year Celebration on the 6th of January 2017. As per the official website- ‘Depilex Smile Again Foundation is committed to provide the acid survivors not only with medical care and assistance but also an adequate chance to become productive, self-reliant members of the society that has ostracized them.’ The idea behind this event was to make these victims smile and feel loved after the terrible suffering they went through.

NLX started the arrangements at around half past nine in the morning. Carpets were laid on the ground and area was sectioned off for privacy. They started to bring in tables and chairs, the catering was taken care of, and decoration of the basketball court was done to create a welcoming ambiance. Naba Fatima Nayani, Chief Executive Officer of NLX mentioned, “We were short of volunteers, so us C-levels ourselves placed the slipcovers on the chairs” effectively highlighting how nothing could deter the team from completing the task on hand.

The setup for the event was complete by 11 a.m. and the honorable guests started to arrive. All of them were given gajras (bangles made from crossandra and barleria flowers). Once they were seated, MBAKH and NLX volunteers engaged them in conversation. They talked about their life, their family and children, what they did for leisure and if they looked forward to the event. One guest, Eeshal, was found gossiping about the latest Indian films with Sana, a volunteer. Both seemed engrossed in the discussion over Salman Khan’s role in his latest movie. A volunteer asked a few women what they did on New Year’s Eve. Most of them dressed up in new clothes and went out with their families till late in the night, others stayed in and had an early night. Some other volunteers were seen capturing the moment through selfies with the guests.  A group picture of all the guests and volunteers was taken, in remembrance of the day.

Salman then asked the audience if they wanted to have go on the mic. A young girl sang a melody with her beautiful voice. Next, Salma took a go at the mic while the audience praised her by clapping. The most awaited part of the afternoon finally arrived. It was time to eat. MBAKH volunteers formally dressed in suits, posing as waiters, brought out the biryani. The biryani was accompanied by a mix of vegetables, raita and cold drinks. Gleaming faces were seen all around as everyone filled their stomach to their heart’s content. To end the scrumptious meal, kheer, in individual matka dishes was served.

The guests started to leave after the meal ended at around half past one in the afternoon. They were bid a warm farewell by all the volunteers. Once the guests had left, NLX worked as team to wind up the event and get started on their next one. They took down the decoration, unassembled the tables and chairs, rolled up the carpets and cleaned up the basketball court. This marked the end of the New Year Celebrations for the acid attack victims of the Depilex Smile Again Foundation.

Naba Fatima Nayani also pointed that, “Everything exceeded my expectations. I asked several people if something was wrong or missing but I was given amazing reviews and was told it couldn’t have been better. That really boosted my confidence in myself!” All the executives of NLX were proud of the event. Zahra, an NLX volunteer said, “Meeting these people, it really opened my eyes as to what goes on in society. I am glad I was a part of such an incredible event.”
